Water filters are used to remove iron and manganese ions from water as well as other elements found in raw water intakes. They also improve organoleptic qualities of water meaning its smell and color. The excess of these elements causes brown or white stains on fittings. It also causes an unpleasant smell and taste of water. The key to success with this type of water treatment is the selection of proper media. Our experienced engineers will be happy to help you in this process. Our offer includes industrial and residential water filters for iron and manganese removal.
The easiest way to remove dissolved iron and manganese compounds from water is to make them insoluble and only then remove them on the filter bed. This process will occur the faster, the higher the pH of water, therefore it is sometimes necessary to pre-aerate it.
In case of iron removal, during aeration, Fe (II) ions are oxidized to Fe (III) with oxygen dissolved in water. However, if the water has not been aerated, chemical oxidants e.g. potassium permanganate or chlorine, are used.
In order for the manganese removal process to work properly, it has to take place on the catalytic media, i.e. covered with manganese oxides MnO2 or through a manganese ore bed that are oxidants of Mn (II) to Mn (III) ions. Then, under the influence of dissolved oxygen they are oxidized to Mn (IV) and are precipitated from water into the form of MnO2·xH2O. The hydrolysis of manganese compounds is slow; therefore it is much harder to remove manganese from water than iron. The optimal pH of water for effective manganese oxidation in technological processes is 9.5 and is accompanied by its decrease.
In turn, in order to improve the organoleptic qualities of water, carbon-bed filters (so-called carbon filters) are used. Activated carbon filtration consists in the adsorption (absorption) of impurities (adsorbents) on the surface of a porous adsorbent, which is carbon. Such filtration improves the organoleptic parameters of water: color, smell and taste. Thanks to the adsorptive properties of active carbon, we are able to remove from water such pollutants as organic substances of natural and anthropogenic origin, humus, phenol, chlorine and its compounds, some viruses and some inorganic impurities.
Our filters are characterized by:
- effective removal of iron (up to 20mg/l) and manganese (up to 3 mg/l) from water,
- high-quality control valve (American production),
- efficiency and permissible filtration speed dependant on raw water parameters,
- corrosion resistant glass fiber tank,
- fully automatic regeneration and backwash,
- device equipped with electronic controller supervising the bed rinsing cycle,
- high-performance bed with catalytic oxidation of iron compounds.
